Gift Lists are becoming more and more popular with the discerning couple and if you don’t want to end up with lots of toasters, then its definitely worth considering setting up a list. A gift list can be registered quickly and its up to you what gifts you’d like. Once you’ve chosen your gifts, you can insert the link to your list on your invites or on your wedding website. Although you might think you’re being a bit cheeky asking for your pressies most guests will find it useful when they’re looking for shopping for.
Kerry McCulloch, the Head of Gift List at John Lewis, gives her advice on compiling your wedding gift list.
1) Don’t be too frugal. Many brides and grooms underestimate how much guests will want to spend on them, always include the basics at a range of price points (the John Lewis Value range is perfect for this), but don’t forget that your Gift List has the scope to be a Wish List too.
2) Get the groom involved in the wedding by seeking his input on ‘us’ gifts. And grooms love being able to go round the shop with a hand held scanner to zap boy’s toys and technology products to add to the list.
3) Don’t rush compiling the list, leave your self enough time and remember to include a break for refreshments.
4) If you are seeking big gifts such as large electricals and key pieces of furniture, you may wish to combine your Gift List with gift vouchers.
5) Think outside the home for gifts, add furniture or games for the garden, suitcases or travel accessories for trips away or perhaps even tents and sleeping bags for a future camping holiday.
